The following students competed at the district UIL academic meet in Trenton on March 25, 2023: Luke Beadles, Koby Brown, Tess Duckworth, Rustin Giles, Sarah Hawkins, Brailyn Hise, Adison Kempworth, Linda Beth Norwood, Justin Sherwin, Aric Timberlake, Faolin Wilhelm, & Josh Willis. Celeste students competed very well and several have advanced to regional competition in April.
Celeste HS placed 3rd Overall at UIL Academic competition! It was an excellent day! Lots of hardware! Regional dates are April 21st for speaking events & April 22nd for other events.
Celeste placed first as a team in calculator applications, mathematics, & number sense, and placed second in science. Individually, Rustin Giles placed 1st in calculator applications, number sense, and mathematics. Aric Timberlake placed 1st in the science contest, while Rustin Giles took 2nd place in the event.
Faolin Wilhelm took 1st place in poetry interpretation and 2nd place in Headline Writing. Luke Beadles placed 2nd in prose interpretation, while Brailyn Hise finished 4th in prose and is a regional alternate.
Tess Duckworth placed 2nd in the ready writing contest, and also took 4th place in news writing, and 5th place in copy editing. Linda Beth Norwood placed 5th in Ready Writing and earned the 10th place spot in science as well.
Other top performers were Justin Sherwin, who placed 2nd in calculator applications, 4th in number sense, and 8th in mathematics and science. Koby Brown placed 3rd in number sense, 6th in science, and 8th in calculator applications, 9th in mathematics. Josh Willis finished 12th in number sense, 15th in calculator applications, 16th in mathematics, and 21st in science. Sarah Hawkins finished 11th in mathematics and 16th number sense, and performed respectably in prose interpretation. Adison Kempworth competed respectably as a last-minute entry in several journalism contests.
