District 2A-14 Academic UIL Competition

On Saturday, March 27, 2021, the following Celeste High School students competed at the 2A District 14 UIL Academic Competition:  Melanie Brown, Alondra Orduna, Luke Beadles, Renee Gray, Faolin Wilhelm, Kaleb Smith, Jahdai Sanchez, Jared Sherwin, Justin Sherwin, Brody Pryor, Tanner Henderson, and Rustin Giles.

Renee Gray placed first in poetry, while Kaleb Smith took first place in prose. Both advance to regional competition.  Also in poetry competition, Faolin Wilhelm placed 4th and Luke Beadles placed 5th.

In math competition, Jared Sherwin took first place and advances to regionals. Justin Sherwin placed 6th, Rustin Giles placed 10th, Brody Pryor placed 15th. The math team placed 2nd overall.

In number sense competition, Justin Sherwin placed first, while Jared Sherwin placed 2nd. Rustin Giles placed 9th, and Brody Pryor placed 15th. The number sense team placed first overall and will advance as a team to regional competition.

In the calculator applications contest, Rustin Giles placed 2nd overall, and is the first alternate to regional competition. Justin Sherwin placed 5th and Brody Pryor placed 10th in this competition as well. The calculator applications team placed 2nd overall missing first place by a mere ten points.

In other contests, Jared Sherwin placed 7th in science and Tanner Henderson placed 13th in social studies competition. 

The Conference 2A Region II contest will take place at Grayson College in Denison, TX on April 16-17.
