JH Escape Room Fun in Science

Learning the dichotomous key or weather systems in science might seem like a boring job, but for the 6^th and 8^th grade students in Krystal Lovell’s class, learning can actually be fun.  Lovell’s style of teaching involves hands on participation, so the students are ready to learn.  She creates interactive escape rooms for the students to use concepts that they have learned to help them solve puzzles and find answers that will help them unlock the mystery room and escape.  This method of teaching helps the students learn to problem solve and find answers independently.  It follows the 5E science model, which promotes student engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration and evaluation.  This model allows students to develop an understanding of science in a fun but challenging environment.
