VEX Robotics has become a very popular extracurricular program at Celeste High School. Since there is not a robotics class offered at this time, members of the robotics team often volunteer many additional hours of their time to code and build the robots. Sponsors of the robotics team, include science teacher, Dustin Kinnison and ELAR teacher, Wendy Ragle. Kinnison and Ragle stated that, “The students have worked so hard and learned so much since the start of school.” The students finally had an opportunity to compete on December 12 at the Battle by the Brazos Robotics Tournament at Granbury High School. “All three teams competed well and held their own against much larger 5A schools,” Ragle stated. There were 41 teams at the competition and Celeste won 20th, 21st and 33rd. “Many of the students accomplished our goal of mastering code during the competition,” stated Kinnison.
Two of the teams received Texas Workforce Grants through VEX Robotics this year that helped them purchase necessary parts and paid for registration fees. Thanks to local Greenville businesses including Innovation First and Robotics Competition & Education Foundation for contributing thousands of dollars for necessary parts to ensure our success in building our program at Celeste High School.
